I have used George Bolam for a few years now without complaint. Maybe some say the customer service is not so good but I have never had a problem. The lady who served me the other day could have been more friendly. I bought cooked meat the other day and it was absolutely gorgeous along with peas pudding with chunks of ham in it exactly the way my mam used to make it. Just bought a turkey crown and priced one at the supermarket and have saved a fortune. Keep it up George B.

I have been shopping at Bowlam's for more years than I care to remember and even before he moved to Sedgefield. The meat is always good and cheaper than anywhere else. Sirloin on the bone, fore rib, whole fillet, gammon and chickens and a terrific selection of cooked meats. The eggs were the best in the north east until about 3 months ago when they did not seem quite as fresh and some pale yolks but I mentioned it and they have improved but not quite back to what they were yet. The introduction of staff who cannot speak English has not been a problem for me and they are always clean and courteous.
I can get everything under one roof even cheese and love the produce section and now all the Xmas poultry. Wish he would sell butter. I spend at least an hour in there and go most weeks. I suggest
everyone tries it as we a lucky to have a meat market like this in out area.

The Attitude of the staff on the till was appalling. Our custom felt neither wanted nor welcome!!! my husband went to one of the till girls to ask a simple question and all he got was short silly remarks and glared at all around the store. I don't think we will be back any time soon.

I have bought from Bolams for a few years and have always been happy until today.I purchased some peas pudding for my vegetarian brother. Upon opening it, there were several small pieces of ham in it !!!!!!!!
I know this is a meat provider, but I would like to know what controls are in place whilst food is being prepared. It has placed a doubt in my mind now

Came up from Somerset (although family live locally) and was absolutely thrilled with purchases. You can't buy calves liver where I live so I tend to bulk buy and share with my mother in law in Essex, where it is more expensive than gold! The fillet steak alone is worth the journey, so next time I come up, I'm bringing my extra large coolbox>

I only buy meat from Bolams, we travel from Eaglescliffe to the store which is only approx 15 minute drive. The staff are more than happy to supply what you require for an individual receipe. I also buy the dog food which is excellent value, and he loves it.
Thank you Bolams.

As I was so annoyed after my visit to Mr B's on the 21st August, I took pen to paper and advised Mr B of the disappointing experience I'd had. I have to say I was amazed a week later when I received a visit from one of his butchers with a replacement fillet of beef, all cut up ready to freeze and a letter of apology for the poor customer service I'd received. Thank you so much Mr B you've restored my faith in not only your shop but people in general.

We live in Sedgefield and have been shopping at Bolam's for many years. They are the best place to shop at ever! The meat is much better than you could buy in a supermarket, fresher, more tasty and certainly cheaper! The vegetables are great, a lot of choice and they cost less than anywhere else I know, including outdoor markets. They also provide a full range of cooked meats, dairy foods and they have a great bakery. My colleagues at work come all the way from Darlington just to shop at Bolam's. I would too, if I lived that far away! If you haven't been to Bolam's yet, it's a great place to shop.

I went today and found the place to be full of European staff who either didn't or couldn't help me at all what ever the question. I went at 1pm, they had no English Fillet, no Rib-eye and very little in the way of decent steak. Their fruit and veg was no way near the quality or quantity of their weekend stock, I was really disappointed. I purchased a Brazilian Fillet of steak at £39.16 asked that they trim it AFTER it had been weighed and was disgusted when I opened it up at home to find that best part of it had to be cut up for casserole, I managed to get 8 small steaks, never again. Very poor Mr Bolam, what on earth is going on?

Unique Fantastic Butchers / Supermarket & Cafe
Great Products and great staff.

Not only do I live over the road from the man but I work over the road from him! I have butchers in my family n have no problem with his establishment at all! (My uncle used to get cattle etc in and kill them! Not for mr Bolam I may add but at another butchers)! People who disagree with George Bolams need to look at where there food comes from! I'm all for butchers rather than supermarkets and George Bolams is the best around for me, everything is fresh what more could I want and more, I even bought minced lamb which I didn't think would be as tasty as minced beef but it was lovely and I'm getting more again tomorrow it was so good!! Even been to the cafe a few times and that is also great, you must try it!

Bought some beef skirt, 4 days ago. The use by date was today and I've just opened it to cook it and it stinks to high heaven! I think they're being a bit generous with their 'use by' dates! I've had to put it in the bin over the road as it was making me retch.

Visited George Bolam butchers on Friday 22/02/2013 and spent nearly £50 on meat.....including a tray of chicken breasts.
After un-packing the chicken and freezing them, we noticed the label on the chicken packaging was covering another label, after carefully removing the top label the label underneath stated...halal slaughtered. Never again will I visit this store, it is selling meat covertly to people that has been barbarically slaughtered in the halal/kosher way.
Shame on George Bolam butchers.
