When we were given a place at Halstow Primary we were quite excited as the school has an excellent reputation and has been graded outstanding by Ofsted previously.
Since then our excitement has waned somewhat as there seems to be an arrogance that runs from the executive head right down to the backroom admin staff Who are extremely rude and deliberately unhelpful).
The school itself was due to open on the 4th of September but parents were informed by email a day before that due to issues with building work our child's start date would be put back a week. The school expected all parents to take an extra week off work as they couldn't open due to not getting their summer work completed on time.
As if this wasn't bad enough, no assistance was given in finding childcare and no news has been given as tio when this "missing week" will be made up. Parents were treated disgracefully and the you would expect an "executive" head to man up and face the parents to break this news rather than email and run a mile.
The admin staff at the school seem to think everything is an inconvenience and the whole place gives you the impression that you should feel extremely lucky that they are taking your child rather than you expecting anything from them.
The only meeting we have had to date for new parents has been to suggest ways we can help them through fund raising and joining the "friends of Halstow" group. Nothing on what their responsibilities are, complaints procedure, contact details (in this day and age a telephone number and no email address is pretty unsatisfactory) and what to expect.
This may be a paradise for the middle classes in this area but to us it is fool's gold. We can only live in hope that things improve.
