We contacted Guiseley glass and glazing around June last year as 2 of the glass panels they had fitted were showing signs of failure, The owner came out to have a look. We had the guarantee out (which has 10 years cover on frames & sealed units) ready to show him to which he said “it was no use anymore as the company who made the windows no longer existed, they had gone bust, but as a goodwill gesture he would replace 1 of the 2 panels.
We then found out that the company was still in business & emailed them to see if at some point they had gone bust to which the reply was no and that they had been trading continually.
Guiseley glass came and replaced one panel & left a bill for us to pay for it, when we contacted them they then said that he had never said they had gone bust and that he got the panels somewhere different to where the frames were made (the first time we had been told this) and no way was he replacing any others as he would have to pay for them himself out of his own pocket.
When we were sold the windows (July 2004) we were led to believe they came with a ten year guarantee and when we said this his reply was “if you went to a company up the road you would only have got 1 year with them”, our whole argument is that we went with him as he was giving a 10 year guarantee and we have documents to prove this.
Since then we have had a further 5 sealed units that are showing signs of failure, a total of 7 in all and this is from only 2 bay windows fitted by this firm.
We have written a number of letters with no reply and after taking advice from citizen’s advice we have sent a recorded letter & still had no response.
