Looks like Lomotil/co-phenetrope is unavailable again. Really depressing news. The company says it'll be available again by the end of this month, December 2014. Luckily I managed to buy some in India - with the help of a friend - and it's really cheap there and you can get it over the counter, so I'd recommend stocking up. I bought 500 tablets for about £2.50.

Still no news of return of Lomotil in Boots Dover Kent. I have lost 2 stone in weight since it's non availability I did have a few packets in personal stock thank God..I have trouble working without it and have had to take working from home life is miserable and yes I have considered the alternative..I have been on these tablets for years and they make my tummy manageable. I am shocked they could just remove them from manufacture.

just been in to my pharmacy and asked the manager to enquire if co-phenotrope was available and he phoned his supplier who said it was,so he ordered it right away.
Date: 01 May 2014
Just been to my local chemist and they are able to obtain co-phenotrope again from one of their suppliers. Should be able to pick up tomorrow. Prescription must be ordered in name of co-phenotrope though not Lomotil. Am so pleased just hope they arrive as they have been my lifesaver and only have about 4 left.

It is with regret to mention that I was told that the product "Parnate" has been discontinued. I can get no tablet from ANY pharmacy in South Africa. Neither the doctors nor the pharmacies can confirm what is going on as they don't here nothing from the manufacturers. The suppliers just say that they cannot get stock as they believe that the product has been discontinued.
Please tell me what is going on as it will be a disaster for me. It is the only medication that works for my depression. There is no generic on the market.
Please can anybody help ?????
Your urgent response will be appreciated as I only have enough tablets for 2 weeks!!!!!!!

Good news everyone i have just collected my prescription from my pharmacy in Weston-super-Mare for Co-phenotrope.

I was told that lomotil is now back in stock
Date: 10 April 2014
I have been advised that these are now back in stock I have contacted my local chemist who is ordering them and fingers crossed I should have them in the next week. Awaiting normal life to resume ????

Bad news everybody, I spoke to my pharmacist yesterday who checked when Lomotil will be available here in the UK again and he said that Lomotil has now been officially withdrawn from the UK. That's it, no more co-phenotrope! This is incredible that the only medicine that really helps all of us has been discontinued. I don't know why it has been, maybe a balls up at Goldshield or something NHS related? Anyway alternative meds or sources will have to be found. 20 years I've been on the medicine so this is a sad sad day.

Well I hate to burst the previous reviewers bubble but that EXACTLY, word for word what I have been getting told... Month, after month, after month. And guess what...it was by the SAME PERSON that you e-mailed. I'm sorry but this is completely inexcusable, Amco *NOT GOLDSHIELD* are taking us for a bunch of clowns by completely fobbing us off (literally) month after month. We just want our day passes out of our houses back (Lomotil) or failing that - the truth because we can take it, lets face it we have taken being (to put it politely) misled by Amco for the last 17 months.
But I reiterate - this is Amco's fault, NOT GOLDSHIELDS, because from what I have been told - it is no longer their products, it's Amco's.

Co-Phenotrope.....I have taken this for over 35 years! for IBS but it has gotten worse so I sent an email Amdipharm (Shruti.email@example.com)she informed me that they were out of stock but would be back in stock in April 2014 she went on to say that I would be informed when they are back in stock, I was told by my Consultant to get this she then went on to say "Of course you may have difficulties getting it" she wasn't wrong!! I just hope they come here soon!

I am still awaiting a response to when lomitol will be back in the UK I have multiple allergic reactions to products and this one works for me but because I cannot get it im now on injections and awaiting mire bowel surgery. Please get this great drug back here.
Date: 02 February 2014
Thanks, Debbie, for sharing that info. I really appreciate that. As someone who has been totally reliant on Lomotil for the past 30 years, it's been a big shock not to have the medication available in the UK. Luckily I manage to find somewhere online to get hold of it. Without that, I wouldn't be able to leave the house. I hope that the drug will be re-approved here in the UK and things will be back to normal in 3-4 months.

Co-phenotype / Lomotil
Please see below response I have just received from AMCo:
I confirm that Lomotil/Co-phenotrope has not been discontinued. The unavailability of this medicine has been due to changes in the manufacturing process. There has been a change in the regulations relating to the way the active ingredient in the medicine is tested and the subsequent specification standards which need to be met in order to ensure robust quality compliance.
Since the enhanced testing standards in line with the 2013 British Pharmacopeia (BP) have been introduced, AMCo has been working with the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) to agree the appropriate regulatory standards for our product. We are currently awaiting approval from the MHRA before any further product can be released to the market. The approval process could take anywhere between 3-4 months. Hence at this stage I am unfortunately unable to give you a precise date for when Lomotil will be available.
I do apologize for the inconvenience this has caused but please be assured that as a company, we are wholly committed to ensuring that we do our very best to ensure that all patients get the required medicines available with us.

The non availability of Lomotil or co-phenotrope in Uk si a disgrace but Godshield became Merury Pharma in 2012 (see http://www.amcolimited.com/news/goldshield-and-its-antigen,-anpharm-and-forley-affiliates-came-together-under-a-single-unifying-name-and-identity) and this was soon taken over by management backed by private equity firm Cinven. About the time this very useful medication became unavailable, as far as I know. It now trades as Amdipharm or AMCo
So ire is directed at wrong target here, we need to pester and embrrasass the new company for lying month after month.
Contact details: http://www.amcolimited.com/contactus
Can't fuind any twitter accounts, there are accounts for amco and cinven but these are NOT the company in question. Shame.
But you can find Amdipharm Mercury on facebook - I just don't use FB.

This is disgraceful behavior from goldshield and is beyond a farce. No one wants to give you 1 star reviews but I for one can see no other option, its been over a year now and your reputation is going downhill fast - not just with us patients but also with the pharmacies because none of them seem to know whats going on either and the doctors obviously dont either as every month its there on my repeat script and every pharmacy I have spoken to (of which there are many) seem HIGHLY unimpressed. You need to sort this out and quick or I wouldnt be surprised if someone rebrands Lomotil and then you will be missing out on the only thing that seems important to pharmaceutical companies = money, because at the end of day all medication manufacturers are doing is making money off other peoples misfortune [in this case IBS;] also aside from the awful physical symptoms Diareah makes people feel dirty, which causes low confidence, which causes depression, add to that how helpless and clueless we feel and you will get a rough idea of how we feel. Sort it out Goldshield and watch those ratings (eventually) start to rise again.
Date: 09 January 2014
Agreed at Liam F review, we are just being lied to by Goldshield. I also have been in constant contact with Goldshield only to be told it will be in by next month, its always 1 or 2 months ahead of the phone call and by means before ! I didnt like giving Goldshield a 1 star review because they have always done there best to keep us up-to-date either with meds or information, however over 13 Months of being without my ticket out of the house is appalling. Not being able to leave my house for 13 Months has left me seriously depressed, so if the supply isnt coming back yet just say, dont keep biding your time month after month it isnt fair on the people that keep you in business.

When are Co-Phenotrope / Lomotil coming back in stock in the UK ?
Since November 2012 I have had serious problems getting hold of them; I was told by Goldshield and Mercury Pharma that (originally) they would be back in stock 'by' December 2012 and after that didn't happen I contacted them again: Feb 2013 was their next date, then March, April, May - you get the Idea, so now here we are in Jan 2014 and still no restocking. And for those of us IBS sufferers that don't feel like walking round like zombies on Codeine or for those of whom (like myself) find Loperemide less effective than Carrot juice: life has become pretty disabling. Also we feel are being nothing less than fobbed off or basically lied to by these 'reputable' manufacturers. All we want is to know where we stand, Thank You.

Hi yes I too am paying 40 quid a month to buy from America/arrive from Mumbai! just to stay functioning. Lost a stone in under 3 weeks and system was shutting down when put on other medication. I had no choice but to pay and now another tablet is out of productio ! What is going on in this Country: they have Lomotil in South of Ireland but won't supply to here! It's the only one that doesn't mess up the other 5 lots of meds I have to take. Thanks guys just get on with getting it back in production PLEASE
Date: 11 December 2013
I am at the end of my tether with now being told Co-Phenotrope will not be available till March next year that is nearly a year since I last was able to get it and life is now intolerable again. Worst thing is I dont even believe that March will bring new stocks as every month when I visit the pharmacy they give me another date in the future. Why on earth is this continuing for so long please someone out there help us IBS sufferers who found a way of coping with life again.

Just like the others in this chain I am a long term user. I now have to now personally buy the only option of the unlicensed lomotil/co-phenotrope product, as my GP won't prescribe on the NHS but will give me a private prescription. So it is available......can you guys at Goldshield explain that!!! and also tell me when its coming back into production.
Its got to be a 1 star for poor communication across the industry cos the NHS cannot tell us what is happening maybe you (Goldshield) can put this right
Date: 25 September 2013
Lomotil or Co-phenotrope help my condition but I can't get either.I am told they are both out of production. Why Oh Why is it taking so long to produce more.
These are the only things that work.
Date: 23 September 2013
I have been prescribed Eltroxin 100mg but unfortunately I have now been told its unavailable in North Ireland. My post code is BT22. Can you please confirm that this is the case? I would appreciate any information that you could give me. Kathryn G.

Please please make the Lomitil Co-phenotrope again, I have had I B S since 1979, this the only medication that has made my life bearable,I have now been given another drug ,but It does not help me at all and gives me horrid side effects, which lomitil never did . Please sort your problems out and think of all the patients that need this drug to be able to live a normal life. Yours Sincerely Sonia Durrant.
Date: 14 September 2013
Can't believe they don't have a website!
Date: 11 September 2013
On 25/6/13,I contacted the organisation of which Goldshield is now a part, and was advised that Lomotil Tablets would be available from the end of August. I rang again on 30/8/13 and, guess what, was told that the tablets were still not available but will be at the end of October. I could get no explanation as to what the problem is regarding the tablets' manufacture/supply. Why do I get the feeling of being fobbed off?
Surely there must be another manufacturer/distributor of Lomotil in the UK/EU?
Date: 08 September 2013
I have been taking lomotil tablets for years they are the only tablets that control my I.B.S. please when are they going to be available.
Date: 22 August 2013
I have been using Lomotil since 1984. Nothing works anywhere near as well as this product. Whatever the problem is please try to fix it quickly. My daily life is nowhere near as good without it.
Date: 18 August 2013
I've been on these for 15 years, 4 a day for my IBS. I spoke to Goldshield by email and they assured me they will be producing again by the end of the year. However they have been promising this since March so who knows. I'm struggling without it.
Anyway I fly to Thailand next month to buy myself a load since I heard they are available over the counter there. I am willing to bring some back for others, I know what you are all going through believe me. If someone wants some then contact me by email at firstname.lastname@example.org
I can't make promises to bring back a lot since I don't know customs rules or availability but I will be happy to help out if I can.

Date: 19 June 2013
Unreliable for a start My Phenindione Aticoagulants seem to go out of stock every year for some obscure reason that no-body really seems to know why.
so of us are dependant on these drugs to prevent our sudden death due to many many blood clots and thereis simply no other chice out there, Goldshield Parmacuticals are consistantly letting me down as a customer year after year, who in their right might wants to do bussiness with any company that behaves like this?
Date: 10 June 2013
I am amazed at how many other people are reliant on LOMOTIL. I have been taking them for nearly two years now and have tried all alternatives prior to being prescribed Lomotil. They are the only tablets that allow me to lead a normal life. Not only does IBS affect you physically but mentally also, so PLEASE make them available again for all sufferers of IBS.
Date: 10 June 2013
Living like a shut-in because co-phenotrope is not available. Nor can i get an reasonable explanation for this. The company paid a 4 Million pound fine over claims of price-fixing; and is now involved in a shares battle for control! The NHS would be better giving contracts to a more stable pharmaceutical company. Not impressed at all!!!
Date: 09 June 2013

I can only echo what the other IBS sufferers have said about the difficulty of leading a 'normal' lifestyle without Co Phenotrope (LOMOTIL).
This drug has been so important to my day-to-day living for over 5 years, and any and all alternatives have left me feeling worse than ever before.
PLEASE bring it back!!!!!!!!!!!

I was prescribed 'Goldshield' Levothyroxine 25microgram tablets approximately 3 years ago. Up until recently I had no problem getting them from my local Boots, Lloyds, MedicX and an other local chemist. Now over the last 3months I cant get them! Can you tell me why? The chemists'want to give me Eltroxin. I have read such bad results of awful 'side-effects'I dont want to take them. I have been told that the suppliers to my local area (Wirral) do not stock the 'Goldshield' Levothyroxine 25mcg.Why is this? Can you tell me where I can go with my prescription to get the tablets I need.
