Are you a Lord of the Rings fan? Of course you are! Even if you’re not, New Zealand is a place you need to visit. It also just happens to be the location of the Hobbiton movie set, which is open for tours.

Join us as we check out 8 awesome photos of this place that brings the book to life!

Here we have some good old fashioned New Zealand scenery at work. Let’s remember the classic description from the book: “In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit. Not a nasty, dirty, wet hole, filled with the ends of worms and an oozy smell, nor yet a dry, bare, sandy hole with in it to sit down on or to eat; it was a hobbit-hole, and that means comfort.”

I grew up watching the old Lord of the Rings movies, and the new Hobbit trilogy was pretty good too. This is a location that is recognizable by countless people, and a place you should absolutely visit.

Both the Lord of the Rings movies, and the Hobbit trilogy were filmed in New Zealand. This place is quite literally Middle-Earth on Earth!

This place was actually never meant to be open to the public. The entire area was supposed to be torn down once the movies were finished, but weather kept crews from being able to come in and undo the set. People started coming by to see it, and the rest is history.

Real-life Hobbiton is located off Buckland Road, between Taupo, Rotorua, and Auckland. You’ll also find the Shire’s Rest cafe if you’re looking to grab a bite before you take the tour.

The real question, is whether you would want to live in a house like this? I don’t know, it’s pretty quaint.

There’s no place on Earth quite like New Zealand, and only one Hobbiton in the world.

Have you been here? Is it on your bucket list? Let us know in the comments!
