Fairy tales bring about the best parts of us and our world. In many cases,  these idyllic locations are the perfect romantic getaways as well. Join us as we look at seven incredible romantic fairy tale getaways for you and your loved one.

1. Venice, Italy


As much as it pains me to say it, this incredible city in Italy is slowly sinking. The bridges, canals, and gondolas that guide couples down the waterways will not be here forever. You won’t find a single car here either because the canals are the streets.

2. Sintra, Portugal


This historical town in Portugal isn’t too far from the capital of Lisbon. The author of Childe Harold’s Pilgrimage, Lord Byron, was inspired to write his work after visiting this mysterious city. This romantic getaway features 19th-century architecture and gorgeous names for all of its vistas. Pena Palace, in particular, is one place you must visit.

3. Greenland


Greenland is a wonderful place to visit. It’s often considered the biggest island in the world! While the weather is icy and cold all year, the views are incredible! If you’re like me and you want a quiet place and you like cold weather, look no further!

4. Faroe Islands


The Faroe Islands are an archipelago, meaning they are a chain of islands. The area is under the sovereignty of the Kingdom of Denmark. They are home to countless famous places and have incredible weather all year round.  It is places like this in the Nordic region where tales of trolls and fairies were told.

5. Colmar, France


Colmar, France is often referred to as a fairytale town. The city itself is located in northeastern France. It only houses 65,000 people, so it’s a small town with plenty of tranquility to be found. It is home to famous painters and even the sculptor who made the Statue of Liberty.


6. Bamboo Forest


This bamboo forest is located in Kyoto, Japan. It is a plant that has a lot of symbolic meanings in this part of the world. For Japan, it is said to protect against evil. You’ll find plenty of hiking trails through this incredible place.

7. Alhambra Granada, Spain

This place began as a fortress in 889, but a palace was added in 1333 by the Sultan of Granada. The entire complex is a perfect example of top Islamic architecture. Many writers, composers, and directors have been inspired by this place.
